THE BA JOURNALISM COURSE at Winchester is aimed at students who have a clear aim of working in journalism - either in news or features, and in television, radio, newspapers and magazines. It is one of the leading BA Journalism courses in the world and in 2011 was ranked highest in the whole UK for student satisfaction with teaching and resources. The BA journalism also ranked as the best BA Journalism course in London and the south for satisfaction with the course overall. (source: UK government NSS survey). BA JOURNALISM : ACADEMIC BURSARIESFrom September 2012 the University is offering academic achievement bursaries to BA Journalism applicants who achieve AAB or equivalent or better at A-level, who are selected after interview and who then make the BA journalism at Winchester their firm UCAS choice. Such BA journalism students will receive a cash bursary of £2,000 per year if selected to join the course. There are other bursaries, grants and fee waivers available for students from lower income households who are applying for the BA journalism. Full details of the BA journalism bursary scheme are available on the university's main website. The BA journalism provides a comprehensive practical training in print, broadcast and web journalism centred on live production of scheduled news and features webcast TV programmes, magazines and websites. BA JOURNALISM : GEORGE VINER BURSARIESThe George Viner Memorial Trust was set up by the National Union of Journalists to broaden the diversity of journalists working within the media in the UK and Ireland. BA JOURNALISM : ENTRY REQUIREMENTSDemand for places on the BA journalism greatly exceeds the number of places available, which is capped by our external validating body, with a view to matching the number of places on the BA journalism to the number of work attachment places and possible jobs available to BA journalism students and BA journalism graduates. A wide variety of A level subjects are acceptabe as entry qualifications for the BA journalism. Initial selection is doneafter UCAS applications are received. Selected applicants are called for interview. Details of the interview process for the BA journalism are sent out to BA journalism applicants who are selected for interview, Awards won by the BA journalismIn 2011 the BA journalism course won the BJTC's national excellence award for innovation in journalism for the second year running. The BA journalism also won the national award for best multiplatform story and also for best political reporting. |
