In 2011 the BA journalism course was awarded the Broadcast Journalism Training Council's sought-after award for innovation in journalism education for a record second year in succession. in the first year of its operation. Members of the course team have won the award in four of the last five years.

In 2010 Winchester students were entered in no less than five categories - from news reporter of the year to features producer of the year - in the BJTC individual awards for journalism.

In 2011 an MA journalism student's documentary was selected by judges for exhibition at the film

festival of the European federation of art schools. An undergraduate team documentary was also honoured as part of the NEU NOW online festival.

News reporting work by BA journalism was featured by Sky on its website. Documentaries were also nominated for RTS awards.
